Ms Sue Williams highlighted the vision of SDC at Colour Trends

The Indian magic of retail is worth 300 – 500 billion USD and out of it only 3% market share is in the organized sector which may go up to 7% by 2010 which shows lot of opportunities for India in the field of Retail.

He also emphasised the challenges which India is facing in the form of high real estate prices, opening of FDI, lack of infrastructure, exchange rate instability, total product responsibility by retailers, fluctuating raw materials, wages and benefits for workers, environmental pollution, good occupational health, good business philosophies etc, Mark introduced the concepts of Better Managed Cotton (BMP Cotton) and felt that it would be more sustainable than the Organic Cotton in long run and Chemical Leasing which might be more useful and sustainable in future.

He illustrated how big brands are fundamental to their business success and how they deliver many advantages at low prices but not any price.

The proceedings were divided into two sessions of comprising of three lectures each and a Panel Discussion. The presentations dealt from establishing an inherent preference to buy, to justifying premium pricing; from creating a platform of trust and credibility, to bolstering confidence and the share price.

The critical contribution that a colour can make to the power of those brands was the focal point of these presentations.

Session I was chaired by Mr. Ullhas M Nimkar Managing Director, M/s. Texanlab Pvt Ltd. This session involved presentation from Mr. Phil Patterson, M.D. Colour Connections who gave a delightful insight into the much required Expectations of a Retailer, in accordance with the theme of the conference.

Mr. Prashant Agarwal, Vice President Technopak put forward the retail scenario in India and the areas where the Indian markets should look upon in future. Ms. Bhagyashree Patwardhan of Fatfree Design Inc, explained the importance of the colour psychology and the role of Visual Merchandising in the Retail Magic through Logic with lots of visuals to back her presentation.

Dr. V G Habbu, Vice President, Reliance Industries chaired the session which saw lectures from Mr. Derek McKelvey, MD, Deltecint Ltd, Reducing Ecological foot print in Textile Processing and Supply Chain” Dr. Schrott of DyStar presented the best available technology for Denim Processing through Econfidence Denim which dealt with various technological processes in the processing of Denim which can be employed to make the entire processing ecofriendly. This lecture was followed by the informative lecture on “Retail Specifications” by Ms. Swati Shukla of H&M.

The presentations thus highlighted technological developments destined to shape the future of coloration and the regulation aspects for the Textile Industry.

The Panel Discussion was chaired by Mr. Bart, MD DyStar India Private Ltd, where he was able to extract from the speakers the answers to the queries raised by the audience. He also summarized the wide gamut of topics covered during the sessions from technology to ecology and specifications to commerce.

The delegates were also presented with an opportunity to explore the technical exhibition held during the conference by all the conference supporters. It was pleasure for the Organisers to see this Conference well attended through the Day!.
