Official statistics show that in August 2008, Vietnamese textile and garment export to the US increased 5.32 percent in volume and 2.51 percent in value as compared to July 2008.
In all, industry earned over US $3.53 million from this market, marking a significant rise of 21.58 percent in volume and 21.93 percent in value as compared to same month of 2007.
Nevertheless, in August, the export of several categories including cotton dresses (336), knit shirts WG (339), non-knit shirts MB (340), trousers WG (348), MMF knit shirts MB (638), and MMF knit shirts WG (639) dropped by 54.73, 2.4, 14.59, 24.75, 32, and 8.95 percent, respectively.
During the month, the export of categories of knit shirts MB (338) and cotton underwear (352) improved 58.15 and 48.64 percent, respectively.
Vietnam has become third largest textile and garment supplier to the US in terms of value with a market share of 5.73 percent. In term of export quantity, Vietnam textile and garment product accounts for 3.47 percent of total market share of the US, bagging the fourth spot.
