'Craft Bazaar 2009' to continue till January 18 in Bangalore

The Karnataka State Handicrafts Development Corporation (KHDC) is organizing a 10 day long “Craft Bazaar 2009”, which began from January 9 and will continue till January 18. This fair is being organised under the auspicious of the Gandhi Shilp Bazaar at the Palace ground in Bangalore.
About 150 craftsmen from different parts of the country are participating in the fair and will showcase their products to the local populace. These artisans hail from as far as the Northeast states, Orissa, West Bengal, Jharkhand etc.
The total output value of the handicrafts industry in India is around Rs 200 billion and the export value is also considerable. These kind of trade fairs are expected to contribute to the overall development of the handicraft sector and uplift the lives of the poor artisans. The major importers of these products are UK, Germany, France, US and Japan.
