According to customs statistics, from January to February of this year, styrene imports by Zhangjiagang Free Trade Zone reached 69,000 tons amounting to US $407,590,000, a year-on-year increase of 12.35 percent.
Out of this, February import volume and value increase by 20.71 percent and 26.37 percent, respectively, when compared with the same period in 2008. Despite growth reversal in most categories, imports of styrene have recorded positive growth.
The reasons are not far to seek, among which are that, Zhangjiagang Free Trade Zone has a very good chemical logistics and port facility, leading to quick turnaround times and can also hedge raw materials in the international chemical exchanges.
The last but not the least is that, the series of stimulus measures unleashed by the Chinese government, which may have started showing its desired effects.
