A high level meeting was called by the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Mr Omar Abdullah and which was attended by high ranking officials and cabinet ministers to discuss the fallout of the economic crisis on the state handicraft industry.
The meeting which was held in Jammu was also attended by stake holders from the handicraft industry discussed in detail the problems faced by the carpet industry in particular and handicraft sector in particular.
It was decided that a time bound study and comprehensive study was needed to be carried out involving all the stake holders like artisans, traders and exporters to find ways to decrease the impact of the recession on this vital industry.
