Shell raises MEG June prices, new capacity addition by year end

Shell Chemicals is making operational by end 2009, a new greenfield petrochemical plant which has the capacity to produce 750,000 tons of MEG per annum.
The feedstock, ethylene, will be sourced from a cracker which is also under construction and both will be part of an integrated refinery project.
The cracker will be up and running by the first quarter of 2010 and will have capacity to produce 800,000 tons of ethylene and 450,000 tons of propylene.
A 230,000 tons per annum benzene plant is also under construction. Meanwhile Shell has increased its MEG CFR Asia prices by $40 per ton to $620 per ton for June deliveries.
