The official Wholesale Price Index for 'All Commodities'(Base: 1993-94 = 100) for the week ended 10th October 2009 rose by 0.1 percent to 242.2 (Provisional) from 241.9 (Provisional) for
the previous week.

The annual rate of inflation, calculated on point to point basis, stood at 1.21 percent (Provisional)for the week ended 10/10/2009 (over 11/10/2008) as compared to 0.92 percent (Provisional) for the previous week (ended 03/10/2009) and 11.30 percent during the corresponding week (ended11/10/2008) of the previous year.

1. INFLATION
The annual rate of inflation, calculated on point to point basis, stood at 1.21 percent (Provisional)for the week ended 10/10/2009 over (11/10/2008) as compared to 0.92 percent (Provisional) for the previous week (ended 03/10/2009) and 11.30 percent during the corresponding week (ended 11/10/2008 of the previous year. Build up inflation in the financial year so far was 5.95% compared to a build up of 5.56% in the corresponding period of the previous year. 52 week average inflation for the week ended 10/10/2009 was 2.49 %.

2. PRIMARY ARTICLES (Weight 22.02%)
The index for this major group rose by 0.3 percent to 273.5 (Provisional) from 272.8 (Provisional) for the previous week. The groups and items for which the index showed variations during the week are as follows:-

The index for 'Non-Food Articles' group declined by 0.6 percent to 235.8 (Provisional) from 237.3 (Provisional) for the previous week due to lower prices of copra, groundnut seed and raw cotton (2% each) and raw silk, castor seed, rape & mustard seed and sunflower (1% each). However, the prices of raw jute (5%), gingelly seed (3%), linseed (2%) and raw rubber (1%) moved up.

3. MANUFACTURED PRODUCTS (Weight 63.75%)
The index for this major group rose by 0.1 percent to 208.3 (Provisional) from 208.1 (Provisional)for the previous week.The groups and items for which the index showed variations during the week are as follows:-

The index for 'Textiles' group declined by 0.1 percent to 144.7 (Provisional) from 144.9 (Provisional) for the previous week due to lower prices of woollen cloth and hessian cloth (2% each) and hessian & sacking bags (1%).

The index for 'Rubber & Plastic Products' group declined by 0.3 percent to 168.9 (Provisional)from 169.4 (Provisional) for the previous week due to lower prices of canvas footwear (5%) and rubber chappal (1%).

The index for 'Chemicals & Chemical Products' group declined by 0.1 percent to 229.4 (Provisional) from 229.7 (Provisional) for the previous week due to lower prices of benzene and purified terephthalic acid (pta) (8% each) and p.v.c. resins (6%).However, the prices of carbon black (1%) moved up.

4. FINAL INDEX FOR THE WEEK ENDED 15th August 2009
For the week ended 15/08/2009, the final wholesale price index for 'All Commodities' (Base:1993- 94=100) stood at 240.6 as compared to 238.8 (Provisional) and annual rate of inflation based on final index, calculated on point to point basis, stood at -0.21 percent as compared to -0.95 percent (Provisional) reported earlier vide press note dated 27/08/2009.
