The government has turned benevolent on the textile sector. Following the lifting of restrictions on exports of cotton from India, the government is now planning to remove restrictions on surplus cotton yarn.

This was revealed by the Commerce Secretary, Mr Rahul Khullar. However, the quantity that can be exported will be over and above the quantity required by the textile sector in the country.

This according to Mr Khullar will ensure that cotton yarn will be available in adequate volumes to the domestic end user, as well as help cotton yarn exporters to generate better returns from exports of the commodity.

An assessment to appraise the quantities of cotton produced in the country and yearly domestic cotton usage, to arrive at the surplus quantity that can be exported freely, will be done jointly by officials of the Agriculture and Commerce ministries.
