Textile and Jute Minister Abdul Latif Siddiqui recently stated that, jute is now regaining its past glory with persistent efforts and effective measures introduced by the government.
The Minister chairing a meeting on 'Plantation Limitation Act' organized at the conference room of the Ministry of Textile and Jute said that, in order to boost the country's economy it is necessary to bring back the past glory of jute.
The meeting debated various issues concerning jute like, jute prices, its export, as also that how to raise production of jute and seed with the aid of detailed research.
According to the Minister, they would employ block supervisors to assist the farmers, in major jute cultivating regions.
There has been a hike of 25 percent in jute production this year over the previous year, and the cultivators are now reaping good price for their produce, he said.
He further divulged that, the government is considering a plan to buy dry jute from the jute growers of the region, where it is not possible for them to rot the jute that they harvest.
