Several handloom weaver societies from Nalgonda recently approached the Union Government with their appeal for just procurance of products from all the regions for retail outlets of Handloom House.
The All-India Handloom Fabrics Marketing Co-operative Society which gets its funding from the Union Textiles Ministry manages 23 Handloom Houses in the country including the one in Hyderabad.
The weavers informed the Textile Ministry that, over the last five years the society has been cutting down the products which it used to procure from districts like Medak, Nalgonda and Karimnagar for the retail outlets.
Till now there was no procurement from the primary weaver societies of these districts and the procurement centre which was initially in Hyderabad, too has been shifted to Chirala in Prakasam district.
Initially, the contribution of 15 primary societies in the Nalgonda region amounted to Rs 100 million, and now they don't even contribute five million rupees.
