Interstoff Asia Essential has over the years set itself apart from other textile fairs in Asia by strengthening its position as an event with a strong focus on fashion, functional fabrics and eco-textiles. Taking place next year, from 16 – 18 March 2011 at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre, the specialised show gathers suppliers whose fabrics are innovative and modern.

A number of informative and inspirational initiatives are being organised to further emphasise the idea of the fair as the leading venue that occupies a unique role in the fashion industry. A great achievement for the sustainability aspect of the fair is the concise labelling system that has been developed with Systain Consulting to help buyers easily identify eco products on-site that are divided into four categories including:

Green label – raw materials
Fabrics that are made from certified organic materials, natural fibres, man-made bio-degradable fibres based on renewable and conventional sources or recycled fibres.

Brown label – social and transparent
Fabrics made according to social and transparent standards such as Fair trade products or CSR certifications of Reporting standards.

Blue label – process
Fabrics that have been manufactured by optimised dyeing and finishing processes.

Silver label – raw material, process, social and transparent
Any items meeting some criteria in the Green, Brown and Blue groups.

Return eco fabrics exhibitor, Mozartex has been using the eco labeling system for some time now, "It is a useful system that gives buyers a better understanding of our products and their sustainability value. Besides, the eco labels combined with the trend forum highlights is a great promotional tool to showcase our new developments,” commented Mr Mozart Tseng, General Manager for the company.

In addition to an eco labelling sytem, functional fabrics icons help categorise products into end-use including:

- Casual home wear
- Outdoor and sportwear
- Uniform and protective clothing

These are further separated into some 30 icons detailing the functionality of the fabrics, such as:

- Negative-ion
- Shape memory
- Abrasion resistant
- Anti-pilling plus many more.
