Textile mills which have closed down, are not eligible for re-development, unless they pay off the dues to the workers, said a minister in the Maharashtra government.
Labour Minister Hasan Mushrif said this while replying to a notice from another legislative member of the assembly.
He said, “Closed textile mills will not be given permission for redevelopment or change of user norms unless, they pay the dues of the workers”.
The legislative member had alleged that, mills and industrial units were being given a 'No Objection Certificate' (NOC) by the labour department, on the basis of an affidavit and indemnity bond despite that, these units had not cleared the dues.
