Iran emerges as biggest global exporter of carpets

Iran, during the last Iranian year, which ended on March 20, exported US $500 million worth of garments, which is 12 percent higher than preceding year's exports.
Mehdi Qazanfari, Iranian Commerce Minister on April 26 announced that, around 40 percent of the world's total carpet exports are contributed by Iran.
The Minister stated that, of the world's overall annual carpet export volume of $1.3 billion, almost $500 million are contributed by Iran.
Iran is the largest exporter of hand-woven carpets, globally, while its Persian rugs are greatly in demand for their intricate design and skilful making.

Iran is a home to around 1.2 million weavers who are engaged in manufacturing of carpets which are sold in domestic as well as international markets.
The country each year manufactures around five million square meters of carpets, 80 percent of which are sold in overseas markets.
