The CEN Workshop Agreement “Superfine woven wool fabric labelling – Requirements for Super S code definition” has now been adopted as an official CEN document (CWA 16336:2011).

The wording of the CEN Workshop Agreement “Superfine woven wool fabric labelling – Requirements for Super S code definition” was finalised in July 2011 and has now been published through national standards organisations.

The final version reflects the changes which were made to the IWTO Super S Code of Practice at the Hangzhou Congress in May this year.

As a result of these changes, the “S” designation for wool blend fabrics has been discontinued, and “Super S” descriptions can now only be used for fabrics made wholly from pure virgin wool, subject to a tolerance of 5% for non-wool decorative yarn.

The next step for International Wool Textile Organisation (IWTO) is to try to have the Agreement incorporated into EU legislation, and also to have it adopted as a full ISO/CEN Standard.

About IWTO:
IWTO is the international body representing the interests of the world's wool textile trade and industry. Our multi-national membership includes woolgrowers, traders, primary processors, spinners, weavers, and garment manufacturers, together with retailers and other companies involved in wool related businesses.
