Federation of Davanagere Chamber of Commerce and Industry stated that the Textile Park Association under the joint collaboration of the Chamber of Commerce, Textile Department, BIET and traders had decided to set up a textile park in June 2003.
They also decided to get land required from the Karnataka Industrial Development Board (KIADB) for a 99-year lease period that was presently available and as such there was no question to sell the same to private capitalists.
However, the entire project was initially shelved, since the scheme validity was 2007 and collecting Rs.60 crores within a short period from local traders was impossible.
The project cost was Rs.100 crores and 40 percent was a subsidy was to be made available in phases.
Association has even taken steps to get skilled laborers, power supply, roads and settling of labor problems if it arises and there was no reason like distrust or loss of faith or confidence among traders in setting Textile Park.
Even the Deputy Commissioner has assured of providing excess land if required for the textile park and to protect the interest of local traders.
Among the 262 members each having paid Rs1000 as membership fee, 35 have taken up a three-day Tamil Nadu tour to cover all textile sectors at their own cost.
