Mervyns names John Serino as Executive VP of Operations

Mervyns, a leading promotional neighborhood department store, announced the appointment of John Serino as Executive Vice President, operations.
Serino has nearly 36 years of extensive industry experience across multiple retail channels. He will report to Vanessa Castagna, Executive Chairwoman of Mervyns' board of directors.
As Executive Vice President, operations, Serino will oversee Stores, Store Operations, Visual Merchandising, Real Estate and Property Development.
Serino served as Chief Operating Officer for After Hours Formalwear, a division of David's Bridal. During his tenure, he grew the business from 250 to 450 stores and drove both sales and profits to record levels. Previous to that, he held several senior executive management positions with Wilsons Leather.
Serino was responsible for the development of Wilsons' Leather Outlet concept, as well as Wilsons' entry into the travel business -- both large growth platforms for the company. He also served in various senior management roles with Auto Palace, Marshalls department stores, and Brookstone. He began his career as a district manager with Lerner Stores and attended Kings College in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.
"John's strong leadership abilities and outstanding track record of developing successful growth strategies to enhance company performance and customer satisfaction make him an excellent addition to Mervyns," said Vanessa Castagna.
"His extensive retail industry experience will be invaluable as we execute Mervyns' strategy to invest significantly in our core West and Southwest markets, which includes refurbishing existing stores, opening new stores, enhancing our merchandise assortment and implementing new technology systems," he added.
