Dogi invests $25m in its first textile plant in Sri Lanka

Spanish elastic fibre specialist DogiEFA (a joint venture by Dogi International Fabrics, Elastic Fabrics of America – EFA – and Mas Holdings), is investing $25 million in the building of an industrial plant to make elastic fabric in Sri Lanka.
The plant is to be sited in the Asian Apparel & Fabric Technology Park in the town of Thulhiriya, which has just been acquired by Mas Holdings. This technology park specializes in underwear and expects to attract investments worth $100 million in the different stages in the elastic fabric manufacturing and finishing process.
The goal is for the Asian Apparel Technology Park to become the new underwear centre in the subcontinent.
Together with EFA, Dogi holds a position of world leadership in elastic fabric production. This new DogiEFA factory in Sri Lanka, the first project planned for the new technology park, is set to become the leading exporter in its class in the southern part of the subcontinent.
Dhananjaya Rajapaksha, CEO of DogiEFA, believes that the plant has “global capacity and scope to meet the needs of the world's leading underwear brands." The building of the factory is to begin in August, to be in full production by June 2007.
Rajapaksha estimates that by 2008 the plant will be supplying “between 20 and 30 percent of all the elastic fabric in Sri Lanka. Today 100 percent is imported, so this is a major market opportunity for us, without ignoring other priorities such as India."
Dogi International Fabrics SA is a manufacturer of elastic fabric for the underwear, swimwear and sportswear markets, with production sites in Spain, Germany, China, the Philippines and Thailand, as well as sales offices in 11 countries around the world.
The Dogi group's manufacturing capacity is over 34 million metres of elastic fabric a year, distributed under its 'Dogi' and 'Penn Elastic' brands.
