A high level delegation under the Chairmanship of Joint Secretary (JS), Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP), Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Govt. of India, Mr. Gopal Krishna, IAS and officials from Footwear Design & Development Institute (FDDI), Noida visited Instituto Europeo di Design (IED)-Barcelona, Spain, ARS Arpel Group, Modapelle Academy-at Milan in Italy & Footwear clusters in the vicinity of Barcelona, Spain and Milan, Italy from 16th June 2009 to 19th June 2009.

The other members of the delegation were Mr. Rafeeque Ahmed, MD, Farida Group & Chairman, FDDI, Mr. Rajeev Lakhara, IRS, Managing Director, FDDI, Mr. Shashi Bhushan Shukla, IRS, Secretary, FDDI & Mr. Deepak Kumar, IRS, Executive Director, FDDI, Fursatganj.

FDDI keeps constantly updated and in tune with the needs and requirements of today's generation working in the footwear and leather goods industry throughout the world.

The delegation visited various leading international institutions/organizations and Footwear clusters for collaboration/association and exchange programme in the area of Fashion, Footwear Design, Technology, Leather Goods & Accessories Design etc.

During the visit to the footwear clusters it was observed that there is a possibility of creating specific market for the ethnic products manufactured in various clusters of India provided the understanding of international need and culture is dissipated in the clusters.

The delegation visited IED, which is a leading institution of international repute in the area of Design, Fashion, Visual Arts & Communications and is functional since 2002. The delegation had meeting with the Director of IED and other officials of the institution.

According to Mr. Gopal Krishna, IAS, JS-DIPP, "In order to bring international technology and trend for the global competitiveness of Indian Industry in the area of Design, Fashion and Management and for the establishment of FDDI Rohtak branch-focusing exclusively on Fashion and Design and also for the benefit of other campuses of FDDI the tie-up/collaborations have become the need of the hour."

The system of partnership between FDDI and firms of national and international stature is a vital feature throughout the entire didactic process: students have to come to terms with concrete design projects, whose aims and contents are defined together with the firms.

The delegation visited ARS ARPEL, which is the most prestigious school for the bags and footwear model design located in Milan - Italy, the world capital of clothing and leather fashion. It's renowned for the method of teaching with extensive knowledge of new CAD-CAM technology.

The delegation had meeting with the Director and ARS has agreed in principle to transfer their technology and expertise by sending their expertise to India every year. The Director showed keen interest in entering into mutual cooperation and support in the area of Design with FDDI.
