SA Fashion Week is going to organize a The SAFW Arts and Culture Fashion Seminar during 28 July to 31 July 2005.

Larainne Kaplan will present her model on how to successfully launch a South African clothing line in the competitive North American market. Designers will have an opportunity to learn what it takes to be export ready. Larainne will present her talk and be available for consultations on Friday 29 July at the Arts & Culture Fashion Seminar, SA Fashion Week.

Biography:
Born and raised in Cape Town, Larainne moved to Canada in 2002. Having trained as a social worker at UCT, Larainne worked in a social development environment, whilst at the same time setting up a business that would enable her to remain connected to her native land.

With the dream of introducing South African fashion to the world, she took two bags of samples of Ancient Spirit knitwear and crochet. The line was a great success in the Canadian market. Larainne then set her sights on the US market, quickly finding representation for Ancient Spirit on both the East and West coast. Within 6 months she opened accounts with Bergdorf Goodman, Henri Bendel, Nordstrom and Marshall Fields, and has sold to well over 300 specialty stores and boutiques across North America.

Larainne travels several times a year to Los Angeles and New York City to attend the major fashion trade shows and market weeks. She works with an extensive network of sales representatives across North America.
