Share of India & ASEAN rises in Japanese apparel imports

Japanese apparel imports continued to grow in April, albeit marginally. However, share of other countries like India, Vietnam and Myanmar rose sharply, while that of China stagnated.
Japan imported ¥194,720 million worth of clothing in April, up a marginal 2.9 percent year on year. However, growth fell 3.6 percent in volume terms.
Imports of garments from China did not any post growth at ¥163,903 million, but volumes declined 6.5 percent.
On the other hand imports from India, Vietnam, Indonesia, Myanmar and ASEAN grew handsomely.
Shipments from India rose sharply by 25.2 percent to ¥2,914 million, from Vietnam it grew by 27.4 percent to ¥9,700 million.
From Indonesia it increased by 83.1 percent to ¥2,625 million, from Myanmar by 63.5 percent to ¥1,900 million and from ASEAN by 36.6 percent to ¥17,978 million.
