To help the U.S. apparel and footwear industry navigate the complicated enforcement of Proposition 65, AAFA has compiled a Proposition 65 specific RSL to serve as a guide to the lowest limits on certain chemicals for products in the fashion and fashion accessories industry.

The first edition of the AAFA RSL Covering Proposition 65, which will be updated regularly by a peer group of industry experts to ensure the most timely and accurate information possible, is available to AAFA members on the AAFA Web site.

AAFA Restricted Substances List
The AAFA Restricted Substances List (RSL), first released in the summer of 2007, is the first of its kind. The list covers chemicals and other substances whose presence in a product is restricted through a government regulation or law. The list identifies the most restrictive iteration of that regulation worldwide. Every six months, the publication is reviewed, updated, and the latest version is made available for free on the AAFA Web site.

The tenth release of the English language version was published on March 21, 2012 at the 2012 AAFA International Sourcing, Customs, and Logistics Integration Conference in New Orleans, LA. The tenth release of the AAFA RSL was updated to reflect changes spurred by REACH, as well as other state and international regulations. The AAFA RSL was first translated into Chinese in 2011 to better serve more segments of the apparel and footwear industry supply chain. The AAFA RSL is also available in Vietnamese and Spanish.

In addition to the global RSL, AAFA continues to offer training sessions and workshops on regulating restricted substances in apparel, footwear, and textile products, as well as on broader product safety, sustainability, and environmental compliance issues.

The American Apparel & Footwear Association (AAFA) is the national trade association representing apparel, footwear and other sewn products companies, and their suppliers, which compete in the global market.
