Frederick County Workforce Services has been asked to do a 'rapid response' project to help retrain displaced Hartz workers.
Hartz workers are the most laid-off employees the agency has dealt with since the Alcoa Eastalco Works aluminum plant in Buckeystown closed in December.
After assessing their skills necessary help will be rendered to find employment in industries that are growing, like health care, hospitality, construction, biotechnology and retail.
Property of Hartz on Hughes Ford Road was valued at $2.9 million by the county last year, with a 105,538 square foot building on a 5.4 acre lot, according to tax assessor records.
