The Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka has already submitted their proposals to be included in the 2009 Budget.

Samantha Abeywickrama, Secretary General, FCCISL said that this year their proposals take a new and pragmatic approach as they are the outcome of the consensus of a wider and adequately representative forum which discussed the current affairs pertaining to business community of the whole country at length.

Few weeks ago all the Presidents and CEOs of the District and Regional Chambers numbering to more than 50, affiliated to FCCISL met in Anuradhapura and carried out a day long discussion and the proposals emanated from this vital discussion is now forwarded to the Finance Ministry as the Budget proposals for the forthcoming budget.

This Chamber Presidents' Conference is the first of its kind and FCCISL is determined to have this conference as often as possible. He said that these Regional and District Chambers in turn represent more than 4000 business enterprises many of which are micro, small and medium level enterprises which form the backbone of the economy of the country and they play a vital role in facilitating the growth of the sector.

At the end of the Presidents' Conference, a consensus was reached and the final findings were documented and signed by all the Chamber Presidents and issued as a declaration and now this Chamber Presidents' final declaration has been forwarded to the Ministry of Finance as the proposals of the FCCISL.

The proposals are covering a vast range of issues falling into four broad categories namely, the infra-structure and utility services, business development services, peace and security and chamber experiences and issues.

Mr. Abeywickrama further said that the FCCISL is confident that all these proposals will find a place in the 2009 Budget as their proposals have been pragmatic and timely and all the proposals they have submitted were included in the Budgets.
