Between 18th and 23rd February, CIBELES MADRID FASHION WEEK (CMFW), an event organised by IFEMA, confirmed its status as the best showcase for Spanish fashion. The fair staged its fifty-third edition in Hall 14.1 at Feria de Madrid.

A total of 63,094 people attended the event, at which some 45 designers presented their collections for the Autumn-Winter 2011/12 Season, whilst another 40 talented, up-and-coming creators presented their collections at the EL EGO Showroom, featuring direct sale to members of the public throughout the entire duration of the fair. CMFW was covered by 1,427 journalists; 103 of them travelled to the event from abroad.

On this occasion, the fashion shows programme began with the ideas of the established designers. Specifically, Jesús del Pozo was the designer entrusted with opening this fifty-third edition. Other new features on this occasion included moving the EL EGO fashion parade to the last day of the Week, as well as the staging of solo fashion shows for the designers, Elisa Palomino and Juana Martín, and the incorporation of the young creator, Sara Coleman, into the general CMFW programme from EL EGO.

At this edition, the fashion parades of the designers that belong to the Madrid Fashion Designers Association (ACME) took place between Friday 18th and Monday 21st February.

Furthermore, the first-time broadcast of the fashion parades live via streaming on the CIBELES web page was warmly welcomed by all those interested in fashion and new trends. In this respect, throughout the event's six-day duration nearly 50,000 people connected to the fashion parades live via their computers and mobile devices.

Furthermore, the fair opened up its own blog in order to provide first-hand news relating to CIBELES and the world of fashion in general. To date, more than 15,300 visitors have already visited the blog. These streaming and blog initiatives form part of the fair's renewed focus on new technologies, to which we must add the re-broadcast of every detail of the fair via Twitter and Facebook, as at the last edition of CMFW.

The programme on this occasion concluded with the staging of the Coolpeople Fashion Parade at Cibeles, another of the new features at this edition. This new, different and relaxed fashion parade, the first of its kind in the world, featured the participation of some 60 fashion enthusiasts instead of models, all finalists in a competition organised through social networking sites over several days prior to the staging of CMFW.

The aim of the competition was to find the best look among the 900 people who took part in the initiative. This edition's Cibeles Girl and Cibeles Boy were chosen from among the finalists. The winners on this occasion were Jorge Saavedra and María Poddubnaya, whose prize included the opportunity to publish a fashion editorial on centromodaonline, a report belonging to the trends magazine, Neo2. The winners also received 200 euros each in order to purchase Spanish fashion products. This initiative was organised by CMFW, in conjunction with Centromodaonline.com and Globally.
