Gerry Weber's Q1 profit rises on higher sales

German fashion house Gerry Weber International AG has kept up the high growth rate achieved in the previous year, with group sales increasing by 12.4 percent to €96.3 million in the first three months of fiscal 2005/06. Earnings rose even stronger.

The net profit after taxes surged by 40.2 percent to €3.7 million. At operating level, all earnings figures of Gerry Weber grew ahead of sales. EBITDA and EBIT rose by 14.3 percent to €8.0 million and by 14.2 percent to €6.6 million, respectively. As a result, the margin also improved further.

Sales at the German and international Houses of Gerry Weber operated by the company itself were up 51.6 percent to €9.4 million and are projected to reach €50 million in the full fiscal year 2005/2006.

Gerry Weber plans to open 65 new Houses of Gerry Weber in the current year. 18 thereof will be opened by the company itself, while the rest shall be run by franchise partners.

Gerhard Weber, Chairman of the Board, said, “Our Houses of Gerry Weber make an essential contribution to the positioning and profiling of our brand. In future, we want to go one step further and support the retail management of our Gerry Weber, Taifun and Samoon core brands even more directly.”

As part of this effort, the company not only intends to open 100 new shop-in-shops, but to increasingly assume direct retail responsibility as a concession partner. Another component of the company's marketing strategy is singlebrandstores, which are currently planned for the Gerry Weber Edition, Taifun and Samoon brands.
