David Shah new line links exotic folklore & beachwear
Jul '13

The past is often a harbinger of new stimulus and ideas that originate an innovative design. The vintage spirit, friendly and relaxed, that we have come to know well in the past seasons evolves to become something more modern and younger. The contrasts are sharp, the lines are bright and clear and color harmonies are more daring.

The artistic decoration and the carefully organized hodgepodge of geometric patterns are a pleasure, but, at the same time, a provocation for the eye. Disconcerting optical effects joke amiably, suggesting sizes and textures that are nothing but two-dimensional prints to all effects.

This playfulness goes beyond the simple pattern and evolves to become an opportunity for playing, styling and designing clothing. A playfulness which is cut and glued to the inside of a perfectly calibrated and well-organized patchwork, based on the combination, the exchange, the mix and match of costumes and beach accessories in contrasting colors.

There is a natural link between exotic folklore and bathing suit. However, this link is not static, but rather evolves season after season. In the past, the cultural works were concise, rustic and pure; this season, the trend is stratified into wealth and glamour.

Ethnic and folkloristic patterns, exotic blooms, feathers and leather are omnipresent and enhanced by a high-tech finishing, while the intervention of technology enables the creation of metal laminations, intricate ornaments and applications, embossings, notches and fretworks. The traditional tropical and ethnic patterns are updated with digitalized and manual ruffles and pleats. Think luxuriously and richly!

Helped and motivated by modern technology, the body wraps itself of smart and sensitive materials, active sunscreens, modeling girdles and pro-active leathers. The tactile surfaces give new dimensions and futuristic abilities to the body. Sensitive layers of knitted fabric filter sunlight and water to add new features at the aesthetics of the more performing costumes.

Alloyed materials, spacer fabrics, laser-cut fretworks, carved patterns and padded and embossed details allow to sculpt the body in a sexy way. Fabrics and garments are really smart if produced in a careful way in order to allow a minimal impact on the environment and to ensure a rapid and efficient production. The new engineering techniques, such as the production without seam, the lamination and the new adhesive materials, combine new optical and aesthetic effects with a quick and efficient manufacturing.

To celebrate the nature and the commitment to reconnect with it! Inspired by the sea and terrestrial depths, we take a plunge into the unknown to discover what is unexpected and hidden from our eyes.

To understand the precious imperfections of geological textures, the constant evolution of organic growth, the continuous change caused by erosion, oxidation, natural events and the same self-destructive forces of nature. It's the science of nature together with its most surreal aspects to instill inspiration. The natural and rustic aspects combine to give birth to a new form of precious luxury. The spirit of the fabrics is opulent, but the design of the garments is peaceful and moderate.
