An expert at blending Indian fabrics, patterns and craft with the greatest of ease, Anupama Dayal's collection for Spring/Summer 2008 for Lakme Fashion Week titled Oracle has forecast some of the prettiest dresses seen on the ramp.
On a strong colour base that was very eastern in nature, Anupama picked crimson, emerald, lime, banana, champagne, pink and shades of gray that ranged from dove to charcoal and fused them into western shapes for dresses, tunics, skirts, sheer salwar and jodhpurs.
From the opening creation of a cowl neck panelled dress in satin with the Turkmenistan print and ikkat on the Lurex panels; it was a look that will undoubtedly appeal to the western buyers for the coming season.
Prints have always been Anupama's forte and for the coming season she tells a geometric and modern story inspired by the traditional weaves of Uzbekistan, Turkey, Laos and India.
Adding a touch of intricate detailing, there was Lurex faux patent, gun metal and industrial zippers along with touches of quilting for the belts and garments.
Blending the east and west for a perfect fashion offering was the maize ikkat printed dress with tiny wooden rings and patent leather patches, a flame and grey dress in knit with contrast banana satin shoulder ties and teamed with a gold quilted belt and the really interesting quilted patch jacket in earth tones which was teamed with a black and white chiffon sari.
Anupama Dayal's Oracle collection is what the east and the west have been dreaming of on the fashion forecast charts.
