Casual daytime couture looks were proposed by several designers including Balenciaga and Julie de Libran at the Fall 2021 Haute Couture Fashion Week in Paris, indicating the diffusion of ready-to-wear trends in the realm of Haute Couture. Another emerging trend at the fashion week was the growing presence of menswear looks in Haute Couture.

“The emergence of men’s Couture was one of the unique aspects of this season, as an unprecedented number of brands decided to include menswear looks in their Fall 21 collections, which represents a turning point for the industry as Couture was previously reserved for womenswear. It seems like 2021 is finally the year where menswear becomes a new norm in the realm of Haute Couture,” said Heuritech, a Paris-based firm that offers brands data-driven fashion trend forecasting using advanced artificial intelligence, in its Fall 21 Couture Report.

The report highlights the top trends that emerged for the Fall 2021 season at the runway shows of Paris' Haute Couture week.

It said that approaching fashion as an artistic medium was another trend, majorly explored by brands like Pyer Moss and Viktor & Rolf through their theatrical collections.

Ball gowns, knitwear and the blazer are the three fashion bets for the Fall 21 season, demonstrating a convergence between trends in the Couture and ready-to-wear market.

Fur, sequins, feathers and tulle were some of the most popular fabric choices during Fall 21 Haute Couture Week, however, they are all considered steady trends meaning their magnitude on social media is small.

“Couture is a unique realm of the fashion industry, as the functional aspect of clothing is ostensibly less important than its artistic qualities and the savoir faire that goes into making Couture garments. However, designers challenged this conception of Couture this season; Balenciaga presented hoodies, jeans and tracksuits alongside ball gowns for their debut collection, while Julie de Libran included shirt dresses and cropped tops in her casual Couture collection,” the Heuritech report said.

Overall, from this season Haute Couture appears to be in a state of flux as brands try to redefine its meaning to resonate with the world today, the report stated.
