Saudi Arabia, main footwear destination for Stiller Calçados

Stiller Calçado established in the southeastern Brazilian state of Minas Gerais, produces 30,000 pairs of shoes each month, 30 percent of which is exported and Saudi Arabia is the main importer of these female shoes.

The company also exports footwear to Iraq, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates along with Puerto Rico, the United States, Portugal, Venezuela, Surinam, Holland, Israel, Cuba and Turkey.

It showcases its products in large shoe sector fairs in Brazil. They are generally held at the beginning of the seasons during autumn/winter and spring/summer.

Often overseas clients visit these events, and it becomes an avenue for sales, explains the company trade manager, Francisco Nivaldo Faria.

According to an executive, the choice of the foreign client clash with the Brazilian as the countries are situated in different time zones.

Europe, for example, is entering high summer in August and September whereas Brazilians are consuming autumn/winter collections then.

Stiller intends to prospect new markets in 2006, especially in Latin America, if the problem of the rate of exchange is addressed.

Last year, due to devaluation of the dollar against the Brazilian Real, exports fell during 2005, said Faria.

Domestic Stiller shoe consumers belong to three states of the southern region - Paraná, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul, plus São Paulo and Espírito Santo, in the southeast.

Stiller's bold design is the main factor for its demand. The leather shoes produced by the company are designed according to latest foreign preferences, mainly Italy, Faria opined.
She explained, that they succeed because of proper interpretation of the demand of shoes in vogue.

Hence the company takes great care in development of varied designs, shapes and colors to please the Japanese, American, Dutch and Cuban women.
