Vivienne Westwood celebrates a Premiere at GDS show

On 5/9/2012 at 12.00 noon (Hall 2) footwear company Snipe will be unveiling its until now top secret Snipe100 – the first leather shoe made in the traditional way that is completely compostable. The idea was planted in the head of company founder Ernesto Segarra after reading a study about global shoe waste which is estimated to rise to 23 b pairs by 2015. His aim: to produce a shoe that is more than just rubbish at the end of its product life cycle. To prove the compostability of the shoe the Snipe100 was buried in soil as part of a trade press presentation in January 2012. With an elaborate marketing campaign and celebrity support in the form of star chef Tim Mälzer Snipe will be revealing the shoe at GDS for the first time. On the same day retailers will take delivery of their first Snipe100s which they will then see for the very first time.

Design Attack is a special centrepiece at GDS. Showcased here will be some 100 young designers and hip labels presenting their unusual collections beyond the mainstream. The 17th edition of Design Attack turns the trend area into the forgotten port of “Aqua Marina”. Centrestage is an old lighthouse set in weathered alleyways. An authentic harbour dive and a stranded sailing boat round off the setting.
 
To mark its 35th anniversary the Consorzio Maestri Calzaturieri del Brenta will be staging its own fashion show entitled the "Venice Experience". On show here daily will be highlights from the Italian world of fashion in Hall 2.
 
Another special tip for all visitors is the Upper Style Show "Pure Grace" kicking of the shows on Wednesday at 11.00 am and delighting the audience with its classic and progressive brands.
 
Held in Halls 8a and 8b the forthcoming Global Shoes has an exciting premiere in store: for the first time now the fair will be offering a targeted exchange platform for producers and designers to meet. This “Design Exchange Area” has met with a positive response. Over 15 internationally recognised designers and design offices (in particular from Italy with the likes of Goretti Studio Design, Lauro Design and Studio Luciano Monetti) will be showcasing their latest ideas and designs here. This new and so far unique opportunity will promote creative dialogue between designers and producers. The aim is to reflect the rising demand for good design in the volume business.
