Khanna drew inspiration from the messenger boys of 1940s for his Out of Sight, Out of Mind line which featured cropped jackets, regimented waistcoats, rolled up trousers and cycling pants in a mixed palette of neon and natural shades.

The fourth day of LFW started with an Indian Textile Show featuring New Delhi’s top three designers, Ashdeen Lilaowala, Swati Kalsi and Gaurav Jai Gupta, skilfully curated by Mayank Mansingh Kaul. Ashdeen, who specializes in ancient Oriental and Persian hand embroidery, gave a totally contemporary look to the timeless Parsi Gara work in his collection of cocktail gowns, embroidered pants and stylish blouses. Kalsi featured a limited 8-piece line highlighting the intricate thread embroidery of Bihar’s Sujani technique. Her loose languidly shaped creations had knee length coats, purple skirts, bandeau tops and tunics. Gupta’s 12-piece range, which includes jacquard tops, shirts, waistcoats, dresses, capes and sarees, was a clever mix of hand-woven fabrics from Fulia, Chanderi, Banaras and Orissa.

Ornamental tiles and marble inlays in the heritage buildings of Delhi and Mumbai as well as the beauty of underwater life and ecology were the dominant themes of the ensembles displayed on the last day of LFW. Designer Vijay Balhara in his collection In Conversation with Stones revealed the earthy beauty of ancient architecture in varying shades of olive, jade, bright coral, pink and purple. His line was a delightful blend of Indian and western creations like Anarkali kurtas, stylish shifts, dresses, long slim column creations, sharply cut jackets and coats. Designer Yogesh Chaudhary’s quirkily titled collection Dip, Dip, Dip, My Sunken Ship was an attempt to unravel the mysteries of ocean. Infused with the anatomical forms of sea life in trims and motifs, the resortwear line showcased asymmetrically layered skirts, cropped tops, knitted sheaths, summer dresses and kaftans.
