A 1968 Yves Saint Laurent (YSL) black dress has gone under the hammer for an unbelievable sum of € 118,750 at an event in the Paris-based auction house Gros & Delettrez.

Decorated with ostrich feathers around the waist, the long robe in flowing chiffon was part of a sumptuous selection of more than 300 outfits from the last quarter of the twentieth century that were auctioned at the event.

Other than the transparent black dress, a satin gown, replete with intricate hand embroidery by the famed embroidery designer François Lesage, from the same French fashion house was also sold at the auction.

Additionally, the event auctioned a Christian Dior black cocktail dress in velvet, featuring a high neckline satin corset with puff sleeves and a straight skirt tied with a belt made from the same fabric.

In addition to the Dior and YSL outfits, a variety of other lavish haute couture creations by Azzedine Alaia, Paco Rabanne, Christian Lacroix, Claude Montana and Thiery Mugler were also sold.

The auctioned haute couture pieces were actually owned by a former YSL muse and Geneva-based model-cum-designer Danielle Luquet Saint Germain, who is known as one of the world’s biggest private collectors, owning a museum like collection of over 1000 couture pieces collected over a period of 30 to 40 years.
