Erin Voorhies, Chief Designer and Creative Director for Kempt, announces the launch of her first collection of handbags and accessories for spring 2009.

Kempt is the brainchild of Voorhies and partner Ann Nolan, who met as students at the prestigious Rhode Island School of Design and created the brand to introduce a line of luxury accessories including the ambitious goal of reimagining the classic American handbag.

As a luxury brand, Kempt uses exotic skins sourced from all over the world and custom designed hardware created by Voorhies.

The bags are manufactured in Fall River, Massachusetts, in a 19th century historic refurbished cotton mill specializing in leatherwork. The bags are handmade and hand stitched by skilled craftsman with an eye for every detail.

Voorhies has focused on color and texture for this launch line and uses skins from ostrich to anaconda to create her unique designs.

The bags retail from $940 to $4382 and will launch during fashion week in New York. Kempt has partnered with designer Liz McClean who will feature several of Voorhies' bags at the McClean show on September 5, 2008 at 3:30pm. The show is being hosted by Bumble and Bumble on 415 West 13th Street.

Voorhies is also showing the bags for the first time at "The Train" show September 13-15th, in the terminal stores.

The collection features six bags, each are available in more than one color or skin type.
• Eolie - Small Shoulder Bag
• Eily - Barrel Satchel
• Sadie - Bowler Satchel
• Brona - Fold-End Satchel
• Patrice - Hobo with Flap
• Teagan - Tote

Voorhies is actively seeking distribution for her line, and feels that small specialty boutiques and luxury department stores are the best fit for her product.

Currently the bags are sold online. The website launched in August as well as the designer's blog, called "Designer's Desk".

The site was created by Mickey Mayo of Mayo Studios and reflects the design sensibilities of the brand. The blog and a feature called "Likables" share insight on Voorhies and her influences as she makes the maiden voyage into the fashion world.
