Bangladesh has set a target of $50 billion for its readymade garment (RMG) exports in 2020-21 in line with its commitment to enhance earnings from the sector in the election manifesto of the ruling Awami League. Secretary of textiles and jute ministry Lokman Hossain Mia said this recently ahead of the ‘National Textile Day 2020 and Multipurpose Textile Fair’.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to inaugurate the three-day event on January 9 at in Dhaka.

The government has prepared an elaborate action plan to make the sector stronger and competent in the business market. Forty two vocational institutes, seven textile institutes and seven textile engineering colleges have been established to develop highly skilled textile technicians for the sector, Mia said.

A total of nine organisations and business enterprises will be awarded in different categories to enhance the RMG export and speed up the development, Bangla media reports quoted him as saying.
