Northern Hai Phong city targets 1 billion USD in export

The northern port city of Hai Phong has set a target to earn record export revenue of $1 billion this year, an increase of 20 percent, compared to last year.
Growth rate for 2005 was 18.7 percent. For many years it has managed to maintain a steady growth rate of 16 percent or more.
Foreign based companies contributed $319 million worth of exports last year, while private enterprises contributed $294 millionm, with State enterprises recording nearly $200 million.
The city exports its products to more than 40 countries, including Japan, the US, the European Union, Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, and Singapore.
Hai Phong's main exporting items are footwear, textiles and apparel, shipbuilding and seafood.
Footwear exports were $206 million, whereas textiles and apparel exports were $89 million.
