The Malaysian Handicraft Development Corporation (Kraftangan Malaysia) will be establishing more marketing centres for promotion of handicrafts in international markets.
After meeting handicraft artisans from village Kebakat near Kota Baruh city, Datuk Sahimi Shahadan, Chairman of the Corporation, said Kraftangan would also implement “e-marketing” to promote Malaysian handicrafts in global markets.
He stated that Malaysian handicrafts have high demand in overseas markets and added that the Corporation was laying great emphasis on research and development programmes to ensure that the domestically produced handicrafts meant for exports are of the finest quality.
He was optimistic that the local handicrafts, especially batik products, would be able to compete with items from countries like China and Indonesia.
