Optimum capacity of China's polyester fibre sector is restricting the prices to reach at competitive levels.

Meanwhile, hike in the prices of the raw materials is causing problems for producers.

Manufacturers outside China have cut down on output, yet, this has not had any impact on the prices.

A survey revealed that average price of 1.4/1.5 denier staple fibre edged higher from the December 2005 price range at 48 to 55 US cents per pound to reach 50 to 55 cents per pound range in January 2006.

Prices in China and Europe also recorded slight appreciation.

The average price in China was at fixed 10,650 yuan per ton, or approximately 59.93 cents per pound, which was up from December 2005 average price of 57.58 cents per pound.

In Europe, prices registered a negligible rise to reach the range of 157 to 181 cents per kilogram.

However, the US prices declined from the 78-92 cents per pound fourth quarter prices in 2005 to 74-80 cents per pound in January 2006.
