At the Brunei Grand Sale, which concluded recently, many retailers felt that the number of customers did not increase considerably this year although customers had received pay increments.
Despite more customers attending the sale towards end of Ramadan, their number was less than last year. Reason for this could be growing number of shops and commercial areas.
Increasing shops and retail areas indicate that shops are making less profit because there is not much rise in demand. But some entrepreneurs have overcome this hurdle.
Nazeer Ahmad, Managing Proprietor, Nazmi Textile Mall, informed that this year there has been 20 percent rise in number of customers coming to his stall, which is greater than that in past few years. He said some customers were from foreign countries like Singapore.
He opined that the sale ended very quickly, and advised that it should not be held at Ramadan so that tourists are able to attend the event.
Customers felt that the sale is beneficial to people having less income with shops giving economical offers.
As the sale was held during Ramadan, customers were able to purchase items for Hari Raya. They said some dishonest participants were selling at unjust prices, whereas others kept discount on old stock items instead of fresh ones.
