Islamic clothing in Jakarta on Tuesday broke through the conceptions of black and blue baggy burqas and presented extremely different look that succumbed to the Muslim norms and yet offered a modern feel.
Models strutted down the runway wearing loose outfits and headdresses that presented vibrant colors of gold and copper in shiny fabrics.
Some of these flamboyant dresses integrated scarves with dash of western-ness that subtled down the ensemble.
Traditional batik patterns, flowery motifs on long flowing chiffon skirt topped with beaded blouses or embellished with feathery designs and embroidery made up the collection.
Musa Widyatmojo, Supervisor, fashion designers' association, explained to the media, “Muslim fashion should not be identified with long black scary attire, but Muslim women can appear in nice, trendy, up-to-date fashion, Indonesia is a trendsetter for Muslim fashion followed by Malaysia.”
