Ministry of Textiles plans to set up 24 new textile parks to speed up the sector's growth in India. This will raise the total number of parks to 50.
An approximate investment of more than Rs1,000 crores is needed for these parks. This move is part of a draft plan for increasing country's share in global textile business by seven percent within 2015. Medium term target of eight percent has been decided for 2010.
National Manufacturing Competitiveness Council (NMCC) has helped in developing the draft plan, which will be taken into consideration by Prime Minister's High Level Committee on Manufacturing (HLCM).
