Colorful extravaganza 'Surajkund fair' underway at Delhi

The 21st Surajkund fair, underway on the outskirts of New Delhi till February 15 to showcase crafts and art forms of India and countries of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), unfolded a dazzling array of colorful extravaganza, with replica of the grand Charminar of Hyderabad as its entrance.

Surajkund Crafts Fair, an annual feature, brings forth the rich culture of each state with creations ranging from fine Pashmina shawls of Jammu and Kashmir, colourful carpets of Uttar Pradesh, saris of Gujarat and Tamil Nadu, life sized figurines of polystone from Chandigarh, to the handicrafts of Assam.

Andhra Pradesh, the theme state this year, showcased its exquisite crafts having intricate carvings on wooden panels, wall brackets with Yali designs, silk saris and traditional kalamkari paintings.

Many countries of South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) also presented their creations on display.

Vanarit Jitsopa of Thailand has artificial flowers on display with this being her first visit to Surajkund fair.

Thailand has a total of nine stalls displaying coloured candles, silver jewellery, craftwork and herbal cosmetics.

Afghanistan is exhibiting embroidered fabrics, carpets and it's speciality - the blue lapas stoned jewellery and decorative items in four stalls.

Bangladesh showcased bamboo handicrafts and handloom products while Nepal with its shawls and decorative pieces were the other participants in the fair.
