Govt to promote trade with Tunisia

On Wednesday 21 February, 2007 at 11.00 hrs, Mr. Faysal Gouia, Tunisian Ambassador to Thailand, residence in Jakarta, paid a courtesy call on Mr. Nitya Pibulsonggram, Foreign Minister, at Foreign Ministry, on the occasion of his appointment as a new ambassador to Thailand.

Foreign Minister expressed his sincere congratulations to the Ambassador on the occasion of his audience with HRH Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn to present the Letter of Credence on 19 February 2007 at Sukhothai Palace.

In this meeting, Foreign Minister and Tunisian Ambassador exchanged their views on several important issues. A summary is as follows:

1. Tunisian Ambassador conveyed the invitation from Tunisian Foreign Minister to Thai Foreign Minister to visit Tunisia on a date of his convenience.

2. Tunisian Ambassador stressed the importance of signing two agreements between Thailand and Tunisia, namely the Agreement on the Avoidance of Double Taxation, and the Agreement on the Promotion and Protection of Investments. Foreign Minister was confident that the signing on such agreements should soon be ready.

3. Tunisian Ambassador discussed about the 2nd Thai-Tunisian Joint Trade Committee in Tunisia on 22-26 February 2007 in which representatives from Thailand's Ministry of Commerce and Ministry of Foreign Affairs will participate. During the meeting, a one-day seminar for business sectors of both countries will be organized by three Tunisian businessorganizations: Center for Promotion Exports, Foreign Investment Promotion Agency and Chief of Enterprises. This activity is aimed to promote economic, trade and investment interaction between Thaialnd and Tunisia.
