Proposal to seek 150 acres of land for setting up a jute park in Visakhapatnam district has been put forward by Federation of Andhra Pradesh Industries (FAPI) to State Government.
The park would accommodate 10 large and medium scale jute units, 20 small scale units and 60 tiny units.
An investment of around Rs500 crore would be required in setting up the jute park and also provide employment to about 20,000 people, said BV Rama Rao, President of FAPI and Managing Director of Swarnandhra Jute Mill.
Turnover of about Rs800 crore over next four-five years including exports of about Rs150 crore exports would be achieved after the units start production, he added.
“Plenty of raw material is available in Andhra Pradesh and nearby West Bengal. If we can concentrate on jute industry not only will it provide employment to a large number of rural people but will also generate a lot of foreign exchange,” he said.
Andhra Pradesh has 27 jute mills, both composite as well as jute twine mills having a combined production capacity of 825 tons per day.
