Jute fair inaugurated in Puducherry

India is expected to export jute products worth Rs5,000 crore by 2010 in comparison to Rs1,200 crore worth of products being exported now, industry sources said.

It would mainly be exported to buyers of jute products of Europe, the US, Australia and Japan including others, they said.

The six-day Jute Fair organised by Jute Manufacturers Development Council and National Centre for Jute diversification, is showcasing products from different States.

The fair includes jute products from West Bengal, Karnataka, Delhi, Puducherry, Hyderabad and Tamil Nadu.

The fair was inaugurated by Education Minister M O H F Shahjahan here yesterday.

Products being displayed were environment friendly and included products such as carry bags and handicrafts, informed the organising committee functionaries and development council members.

Jute Council has opened training centres called Jute Entrepreneurs Service Centres in Patna, Kolkata and in Puducherry in collaboration with National Council for Jute Diversification.

These centres offer three years training to interested entrepreneurs which helps manufacturers in their profession.
