The verdict of bribery charges in the textile garment quota scandal at the Trade Ministry which held in HCM City came on last Friday with 14 years imprisonment for the former Vietnamese deputy trade minister Mai Van Dau.
Dau's son, Mai Thanh Hai, is sentenced to five years in prison after being convicted of fraud. Eleven other defendants were got sentences ranging from three years' probation to 17 years in prison.
The longest punishment is given to Le Van Thang, a former Ministry of Trade official, who had taken a bribery of US$18,000 from textile companies for allotting quotas.
Chinese company Lai Wai Hung of Sundance Limited, is sentenced to five years for paying bribery.
