Kenyon active thermal wear range utilises Australian Merino wool

The relationship between Australian Wool Innovation and US manufacturer Kenyon Consumer Products is off to a great start following the announcement of their collaboration last month.

Kenyon is a prominent US base layer clothing producer, creating garments for the sporting, outdoor, hunting and fishing markets. Its products are high quality, well-fitted and designed for active wear. Kenyon's new range of active thermal wear utilises Australian Merino wool.

“The abilities of the Merino fibre combined with its natural durability and performance attributes made it the top option when we were looking to create this range of thermal active wear,” said Andy Curtis of Kenyon.

The Kenyon Merino range uses innovative mercerised Australian Merino wool. This system gives the wool a silk-like appearance with a luxurious lustre easily visible to the buyer's eye.

“We are astounded by the luxurious quality offered by the mercerised Merino. So many of our customers have been impressed when viewing the new collection, many can't believe their eyes when we tell them it is made using Australian Merino wool.”

Mercerised Merino is applied to worsted tops where the scale structure from the surface of the fibre is removed, resulting in more directly reflected light. This gives the fabric brightness and shine.

The mercerised wool is also more easily combined with finer fibres such as cashmere and silk. This produces stunning blended fabrics that are durable, soft, breathable and flexible – all the qualities needed for the active wearer.

The initial range of Kenyon Merino thermal apparel includes men's short and long sleeve tops and thermal bottoms. Colour options are sand, navy and black. The range was launched at trade shows in January and Febuary across the US.

Curtis added: “The range has also been well received by one of our military customers, who have printed a full adoption in their major catalogue, released February '07.”
