MERINOSELECT - 'Try Before You Buy' offer on again

The first two MERINOSELECT 'Try Before You Buy' offers have been so successful, the program is being opened up again to Merino ram breeders to participate in a third offer.
The offer gives Merino breeders who are not members of MERINOSELECT another opportunity to participate in a non-commercial analysis, and experience the process involved.
MERINOSELECT is practical information for Merino breeders and woolgrowers on the genetic potential of their sheep, developed by Australian Wool Innovation (AWI) and Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA).
The previous 'Try Before You Buy' offer was very successful, with data from over 55,000 animals analysed.
The participants in the program have the opportunity to review and interpret the reports from this data, and further discuss MERINOSELECT and its potential application for their flock.
Sheep are ranked according to Australian Sheep Breeding Values (ASBVs), that allow commercial producers and breeders to make comparisons between sheep, and more effectively use information available to them such as wool testing results.
ASBVs are also directly comparable across flocks, which gives breeders the opportunity to benchmark their sheep's performance against industry, and their own performance from year to year.
Traits such as wool weight and quality, growth, carcass merit, reproduction and worm resistance are all available as ASBVs.
Dr Troy Fischer, Program Manager Sheep Productivity at AWI, said the first two offers have been so successful, another one will be run in August.
