Zipper exports rise significantly in second quarter

According to Customs Statistics, in the first half of 2008, China earned nearly US $269 million of revenue through exports of zipper products, witnessing a year-on-year increase of 28.91 percent.
From the total foreign currency earned, the contribution of second quarter was almost $158 million. This showcases a significant boost of 42.08 percent when compared to the previous quarter.
However, in terms of volume zipper exports declined slightly and reached 1.878 billion meters, observing a fall of 2.19 percent from the same time of 2007. The average unit price for the product was $0.11 per meter, experiencing an annual growth of 34.79 percent.
Exports of zipper parts totaled to 1,300 kg, a year-on-year boost of 23.74 percent. Export value amounted to almost $64 million, an increase of 20.31 percent. The average unit price for the same was nearly $5.06 per kg, down 2.77 percent when compared to same period of 2007, which was approximately $5.20 per kg.
