It has been noted that Chinese textile and garment industry is currently facing many problems. One of the key issues is the rise in labour cost. This has been revealed in a study conducted by China National Textile and Apparel Council.
Statistics show that surge in labour expenses reached almost 35 percent in 2008, adding greatly to the production cost.
Despite this, insiders reveal, that the labour situation is extremely unstable. Supply of skilled workforce is inadequate.
Since the salary in other industries is higher than that in textiles, workers are opting for other sectors.
It has become a big problem for textile companies to find willing workers and even those employed do not stay for long periods.
Experts believe that development of many textile enterprises is being hampered severely by labour issues.
