The International Forum for Cotton Promotion (IFCP) will conduct a discussion about the importance of cotton demand enhancement at the 67th ICAC Plenary Meeting in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso on Wednesday, November 19, 2008, beginning at 11:00.

An uncertain economy combined with volatile markets will affect production and consumption of cotton, but also presents the industry with an opportunity to reposition itself for a recovery.

The price of oil cannot be controlled, nor can the return per hectare of competing crops, but we can have an impact on consumer awareness through promotion and new product development in order to increase cotton's availability at the retail level.

Dr. Alejandro Plastina of the ICAC Secretariat will begin the meeting with a brief presentation showing the trend in cotton's share of world fiber use and future projections. An interactive discussion will follow that will focus on strategies for future action, as well as the progress of current activities.

All who have an interest in cotton's future are invited to attend, and encouraged to participate.

The International Cotton Advisory Committee is an association of governments of cotton producing and consuming countries. The Secretariat of the Committee publishes information related to world cotton production, supply, demand and prices, and provides technical information on cotton production technology.
